Cloud Clipboard is coming to Windows 10 RS5

Cloud Clipboard is one of the features which wasn't included with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. It is a special feature to sync clipboard content across all your devices connected with your Microsoft Account. It is powered by their Cloud infrastructure and utilizes the same technologies that made it possible to have your preferences synchronized across your devices, and your files made available everywhere with OneDrive.

The Cloud Clipboard feature was initially planned for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (Redstone 3), however, it got postponed to Spring Creators Update (Redstone 4). As the development of RS4 neared its end, the feature got postponed to the next feature update, currently known as Redstone 5.

The latest build of Windows 10 Redstone 5, which is Build 17627, already includes some bits of the Cloud Clipboard feature. The following screenshot demonstrates a new Settings page which gives more details of the feature.

It shows that the user can copy data on one device and paste it on another. The Twitter user WalkingCat, who discovered the feature hidden in the latest Skip Ahead release, hints that it should support synchronization with Android devices. This can be done in Automatic Mode, where everything you copy or cut gets synced automatically, or manually, and you should choose the device to sync.

It is worth mentioning that the cloud data storage should be supported by your software. In case of Android, there must be some app which allows signing to your Microsoft Account. Microsoft redistributes a number of apps in the Play Store, such as Cortana, a launcher, and a keyboard app.

Users of the stable branch of Windows 10 will be able to test this new Cloud Clipboard feature in Windows 10 1809 in September / October 2018. Obviously, participants of the Windows Insider program will get this feature earlier.
