Change Lock Screen Background in Windows 10

In Windows 10, the lock screen image is shown in a number of cases. For instance, if you locked your user session using Win+L or by clicking the user image in the Start Menu, the lock screen image will appear and show a background image. If you are signing in to Windows 10, you need to dismiss the Lock screen to proceed with the sign-in screen. Here is how you can change the Lock screen background image to a custom image in Windows 10.

In Windows 10, the Lock Screen background image can be set through the Settings app. The user can visit the following page: Settings -> Personalization -> Lock screen.

Note: in Windows 10, there are two Lock Screens. The first one is the default Lock screen that appears when you are signed out, have a password set for your user account or you have Ctrl+Alt+Delete requirement enabled. Change Lock Screen Background in Windows 10
Do it as follows.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Personalization -> Lock screen.Windows 10 set lockscreen background
  3. Under Background on the right, you can select one of the following options.

    • Picture - here you can set a single image to be used as the lock screen background.
      You can pick a specific image which is available out-of-the-box:Windows 10 set default picture on lockscreenAlternatively, you can set a custom picture using the Browse button.     • Slideshow - use this option to have a slideshow as your lock screen background. It will play images from the folders you include. Tip: You can also use the Photos app to set your favorite picture as your Lock Screen background. Open the desired image in the Photos app and click the three dots menu button.Photos app three dots menu

There, click the item "Set as". A new menu will appear on the screen with the "Set as lock screen" command which you can use to set the current image as your lock screen background.Photos app set lock screen background

There is a Ctrl + L shortcut defined for the same action. You can press it to set the lock screen background from the Photos app directly.
