In Google Chrome, you can change the download folder even though it does not ask you each time where to save a file. By default, the browser is using the Downloads folder in your user profile, which is also visible in the navigation pane of File Explorer and in the This PC folder. Here is how you can change it.

To change the download folder in Google Chrome, do the following.
- Open Chrome.
- Click the three dots menu button on the right of the address bar and select Settings in the drop down menu.
- In Settings, scroll down to the end of the page and click "Show advanced settings".
- Scroll to "Downloads". You will see the Download location text box. There you can type or paste the path to a new Download location of your choice. Or you can click the button Change... and browse for the folder path.
The downloads folder will be set separately for the Google Chrome browser. This can be useful if you are using different browsers simultaneously so that the downloads from different browsers go into separate folders.
You can also enable the option Ask where to save each file before downloading. When enabled, this option makes Chrome ask you where to save the downloaded file every time you try to download something.
By default, this option is disabled and Chrome downloads the file to the specified download folder directly.
Google Chrome is the most popular web browser as of this writing. While it looks very simple, it is a powerful and extensible browser. Thanks to its settings, flags and extensions, you can configure many of its settings as you wish and extend its functionality.
If you are downloading files very frequently, you can save your time and set File Explorer to open to the Downloads folder directly in Windows 10 instead of This PC or Quick Access. See the article Open File Explorer to Downloads Folder in Windows 10 which describes the procedure in detail.
