Microsoft cancels Windows 11 23H2, switches to three-year release cycle for major versions

Microsoft switches to a new Windows development schedule. The major OS release will happen every three years. But the new features will land in the existing Windows versions, without the user waiting for the OS upgrade.

Windows 11 Build 25158 features updated Widgets and search in the taskbar

Microsoft has released a new preliminary version of Windows 11, build 25158. It is out to Windows Insiders in the Dev channel. The full build tag is  10.0.25158.1000.rs_prerelease.220708-1401. The release adds significant changes to the Search appearance in the taskbar. Also, widgets can now show notification badges over its taskbar icon. Finally, this build includes initial support for DNS over TLS.

A search bug prevents Windows 11 from indexing Outlook mail

Yet another Windows 11 Search bug affects Outlook desktop users. If you are using the app, you could already notice that Outlook search results often don't include recent messages. It affects all boxes regardless of their protocol, including POP, IMAP and Microsoft's Exchange working offline.

Windows Subsystem for Android has got new settings and networking improvements

Microsoft today released Windows Subsystem for Android July update for Windows 11. Version 2205.40000.14.0 is now available for participants of the Windows Insider program in the US. It brings with it some pretty important improvements.

Windows 11 Preview Builds 22621.290 and 22622.290 are in Beta

Microsoft today released two new Windows 11 builds to the Beta channel insiders at once. The company decided to split insiders into two groups. The first group will receive builds 22622 with new features enabled, while the second will receive builds 22621 where these features are disabled by default. They already used this approach back in 2019 with Windows 10 version 19H2 in the Slow ring.

AdDuplex: Windows 11 share reached 23%

According to a new AdDuplex report, Windows 11 now has 23% of market. Their stat info on the use of different versions of Windows is based on information from 5000 applications. The apps are using the AdDuplex SDK, and serve as the only data source. So the actual numbers must be different, but Microsoft never shares its own stat on the OS usage.
