There is a new Date & Time pane in Windows 10, which is hidden by default. It only works after you do a special Registry tweak. I would like to share with you how to enable it, so you can try it for yourself. It is one of the many secret hidden features of the latest leaked build of Windows 10.
Here is how the current calendar looks when you click the clock:
The new Date Time Pane in Windows 10 9901 is designed in Modern/Metro style and looks like this:
To activate it, you need to do the following:
- Open Registry Editor.
- Go to the following Registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell
Tip: See how to jump to the desired Registry key with one click.
- Create a new DWORD value named UseWin32TrayClockExperience and leave its value data as 0. If you already have this value, then just modify its value data to 0. See the following screenshot:
- Now click the time in the bottom right corner. The new pane will appear on the screen.
In the current implementation, it is very slow. Looking at its design, we can see that it is a touch friendly pane and was obviously created to work with touch screens. At this moment, the calendar cannot be navigated, i.e. you cannot view the calendar for past or future dates. I hope we will see the full functionality of the classic date/time UI in the modern implementation, otherwise it will be a real disappointment if an overly simplified implementation replaces it. Time will tell. Credits for the tweak go to Whistler4Ever.
