Windows 8 has introduced the Lock Screen feature. When your computer is locked, a full-screen image appears instead of the sign-in screen. It is an additional screen which is displayed with a fancy background and some useful information like clock and date. It appears before you can pick a user account to sign in. When you lock your computer, again you will see the Lock screen.

With Windows 10, Microsoft has added the Spotlight feature to the Lock screen. Spotlight is a feature which allows you to have a random image on the Lock screen every time you see it. It downloads beautiful images from the Internet and shows them on your lock screen. So, every time you boot or lock Windows 10, you will see a new lovely image. The images are breathtakingly beautiful.

You may want to take a screenshot of the Lock Screen in Windows 10. Let's see how it can be done.

Before proceeding, ensure that you are signed in to your user account in Windows 10. It is not possible to capture the common lock screen in Windows 10 without using hacks and tweaks.

As you may already know, Windows 10 comes with two Lock Screens. The first one appears when you are signed in to your user account, and your user account is locked. The other one appears when you have signed out from your user account and haven't signed it to any account. It is called the "default Lock Screen". It appears automatically after your PC has been idle for a certain amount of time and logged out.

To capture your personalized lockscreen, once you have signed in to your user account, lock the computer and do the following.

  1. Press Win + L to lock your computer. The Lock Screen will appear.
  2. Press the PrtSc/SysRq (Print Screen) button on the keyboard.
  3. Press the Enter key to close the Lock Screen and sign-in to your user account.

You are done. The Lock Screen screenshot will be pasted from the clipboard.
