Microsoft Removes ‘Downloads’ From Disk Cleanup

As you may remember, in Windows 10 version 1809 Microsoft added the ability to remove the contents of the Downloads folder associated with your user profile. This could be done with both Storage Sense and Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe). Windows 10 build 19018 changes this.

Clear Downloads with Storage Sense and Cleanmgr in Windows 10

As you may already know, Windows 10 includes the ability to automatically delete files in your Recycle bin, delete temporary files, and files in the Downloads folder to free up disk space. Starting with Windows 10 version 1809, the ability to remove the contents of the Downloads folder is added to the Storage Sense feature along with the classic Disk Cleanup tool (cleanmgr.exe).

Microsoft is Ditching Classic Disk Cleanup in Windows 10

Microsoft today announced that they are removing the classic Disk Cleanup tool in favor of the Storage Sense feature. For users who track Windows 10 development, this is not a surprise, since Storage Sense completely replicates Disk Cleanup in recent Windows 10 builds.
