Microsoft to bring some Windows 10X features to Windows 10

Microsoft has revealed that the company plans to port some of the Windows 10X exclusive features to the regular desktop editions of Windows 10. Also, the company is about to "reinvest" into classic Windows 10.

According to Microsoft, the company wishes to refocus investment in the Windows 10 OS. While Windows 10X will exist alongside Windows 10, Microsoft is interested in adding the best features of both to each other.

Windows 10X Devices

Unfortunately, there are no hints which exactly features Windows 10 will receive from Windows 10X. That could be great to see its blazing fast update installation on the classic Desktop devices. Also, Microsoft might want to port its container security protection for Win32 apps from Windows 10.

Windows 10X will become available next year. Microsoft will also make it available for a wider range of devices, including traditional computers and laptops.

With Panos Panay being the head of the Windows Team, the client OS seems to be receiving back its major role in Microsoft's business. With the new features of Windows 10X, upcoming Windows 10 releases should bring a lot to explore for Insiders in early 2021.

The fast update seems to rely on a different partition layout and OS structure. I don’t see how it can be ported to Windows 10 without a reformat of the system drive.

The app containers would mean that Win32 (= normal) applications run in a WSL-like subsystem. Bascially, they would only be tolerated as a legacy feature. To do that after admitting that UWP has failed would be pretty bizarre.

What I expect: The awful 10X “start menu” – a throwback to Windows 8 – and more childish icons.

What I ‘expect’ is that eventually, running Winaero Tweaker on my ‘desktop PC’ will require rooting it first :(

      That is quite possible.
