With Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, version 1709, yet another type of ad has been added to the OS. Here is how it looks:
The new feature displays suggestions right in the Settings app. It is intended to help the user learn about new features within Settings. However, it can also make suggestions about new apps and various online resources. Today, we will see how to disable these suggestions. This can be done with either Settings or a Registry tweak.
To disable Ads in Settings in Windows 10, do the following.
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to Privacy -> General.
- On the right, disable the option Show me suggested content in the Settings app.
You are done. This will disable ads and suggested content in Settings.
Alternatively, you can disable ads using a simple Registry tweak.
Disable Ads in Settings in Windows 10 with a Registry tweak
Here is how it can be done.
- Download the following Registry files.
- Extract them to any location. You can place them right on the Desktop.
- Double-click the file Disable Suggested Content In Settings.reg and confirm the operation.
The next time you open the Settings app, it won't show ads any more.
The Registry tweak modifies the value named SubscribedContent-338393Enabled under the following Registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager
Tip: See how to go to a Registry key with one click.
It is a 32-bit DWORD value which can be set to either 1 or 0.
1 - Suggestions are enabled. This is the default value.
0 - Suggestions are disabled.
Note: Even if you are running 64-bit Windows you must still create a 32-bit DWORD value.
Finally, you can use Winaero Tweaker to disable ads and unwanted apps quickly.
