Many times after Windows 10 has installed updates, a restart is required to finish the update procedure. After a reboot, you will see the login screen which requires you to pick your user account and enter your password if required. Recent builds of Windows 10 allow you to sign in automatically to your user account after installing updates and restarting your PC. This useful feature can be configured in Settings.
The ability to sign-in automatically after installing updates and restarting the OS is introduced in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update version 1709, starting with Build 16251. A new option in Settings automatically logs in the user after finishing the update process.
Microsoft describes the feature as follows:
Use sign-in info to apply settings after a restart or update: The advanced Windows Update feature to use your sign-in info to automatically finish setting your device after an update, has been extended to regular reboots and shutdowns. When you log in and initiate a reboot or a shutdown through power options available on the Start Menu and various other locations, Windows will automatically setup your account after it has booted back up.
Here is how to enable or disable this feature.
To auto sign in after restarting Windows 10, do the following.
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to Accounts -> Sign-in options.
- On the right, turn on the option Use my sign in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update or restart under Privacy.
Now, Windows 10 will sign in automatically every time you restart your PC after Windows Update initiates a reboot.
