Microsoft recommends WinUI 3 and WPF for building Windows apps

Starting today, Microsoft is holding its Build 2024 event. The company is revealing a lot of information about devices and future of Windows and related development. On the first day of the event, the Redmond software giant claimed that it now recommends the Windows App SDK (along with WinUI 3) and WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) for building UI apps for Windows.

Here’s the new Bloom wallpaper made for Copilot+ Surface devices

During its Surface even, Microsoft introduced a new desktop wallpaper. This is another version of the Bloom wallpaper, which color scheme resembles the Copilot logo. It makes a special emphasis on AI-powered features which are part of the Copilot+ wave of devices.

These are new Surface devices powered by Snapdragon X, joined by other OEMs

As the May 20 event was mostly dedicated to Surface and "new era PCs", Microsoft has announced new variations of Surface Laptop and Surface Pro powered by the Snapdragon X chip. Also, there are now new devices with the same option from Dell, HP, Acer, ASUS & Lenovo.

Recall is the official name of AI Explorer, part of new Copilot+ PCs

During the Surface event, Microsoft introduced Copilot+, a new set of AI-powered features and capabilities exclusively for Windows 11. These features will be available on new PCs launching under the Copilot+ brand this summer, marking "a new era for Windows PCs."

The Home folder of File Explorer gets tabs with Recent, Favorites and Shared files

Microsoft is working on a new variant of the Home folder, the default location of File Explorer in Windows 11. The layout of the contents is slightly reworked, with the middle Favorites section to become a tab next to the Recent section. Finally, there will be a new Shared tab.

Microsoft has released Snipping Tool with Bing Visual Search

Microsoft has released another update for the Snipping Tool, version 11.2404.39.0, which brings with it Bing's visual search feature. It allows you to quickly find similar images and objects in a screenshot by sending them to Bing. The latter will process the image without you have to upload it.

The ability to drag-n-drop files to Explorer address bar is now in Release Preview

Microsoft today released  Windows 11 Builds 22621.3668 and 22631.3668 (KB5037853) to Insiders in the Release Preview Channel on Windows 11, version 22H2 (Build 22621) and version 23H2 (Build 22631). Both come with a huge number of improvements, including the ability to drag files between breadcrumbs in the File Explorer address bar, a new account manager in the Start menu, the option to create a QR code from the Share menu, and much more.
