Microsoft has released Windows 11 Build 22631.4387 to Insiders in the Release Preview channel. It comes via KB5044380 and applies to version 23H2 (Build 22631). It is notable for adding a Phone Link flyout to the Start menu, a new GamePad layout for the touch keyboard, an option to change what the Copilot key does. It also includes several fixes. Some of the new additions are coming gradually.

Mozilla is working on its own Ad platform
Laura Chambers, who replaced Mitchell Baker as CEO of Mozilla Corporation this year, has revealed an initiative related to Mozilla's entry into the advertising display platform market. Mark Surman, CEO and president of the Mozilla Foundation, made a similar announcement. In building its advertising network, Mozilla is going to use technology from the recently acquired startup Anonym. The latter are the creators of an alternative infrastructure for the advertising industry.
Windows 11 24H2 is now available for download via the Media Creation Tool
Microsoft has updated the server files that are intended for the Media Creation Tool. So now, if you download and run the app, it will prepare for you a bootable USB stick with the latest Windows 11 version 24H2. Or, you can use the app to download the latest ISO.
OneDrive to Get New Mobile App, Improved Search, and Colored Folders in File Explorer
Microsoft has announced a major update to its OneDrive cloud service, which will feature improved search, support for colored folders in File Explorer, integration with third-party services, a new mobile app, and other improvements. Windows 11 22H2 and 21H2 are no longer supported
Microsoft has terminated support for both Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 21H2. Yesterday's Patch Tuesday was the last hour for them. 21H2 was already discontinued for regular users, but was supported for enterprise customers. Now, 21H2 is not supported for anyone. 22H2 will remain on servicing for Enterprise customers for one extra year. Consumers will no longer receive updates.
Cumulative Updates for Windows, October 8, 2024
Microsoft has rolled out monthly cumulative updates, known as Patch Tuesday, for all supported Windows versions. These updates usually fix known issues and addressing vulnerabilities. However, some of the features from Insider builds may appear after installing these updates, if the company finds them ready for daily use.
Removed Features in Windows 11 version 24H2
Like almost every new release, Windows 11 24H2 dropped a number of features. So with every Windows 11 release the removal list grows. For Windows 11 24H2, the most notable loss are WordPad, Steps Recorder and WMIC.
Microsoft will start Recall testing in November on Copilot+ devices with AMD and Intel
Microsoft has revealed the upcoming open beta testing of the Recall feature for Windows 11. In October of this year, owners of Copilot+ PC devices with Qualcomm ARM processors will be able to try out the new feature. In November, access to the feature will be expanded to systems equipped with the latest Intel and AMD chips.
