Here is another Surface computer to receive the latest firmware patches and improvements. After seeding updates for several Laptop and Pro models, Microsoft is pushing another firmware. This time, it is AMD-based Surface Laptop 3 to receive the August 2021 firmware update.
What is new in the August 2021 firmware update for Surface Laptop 3 (AMD)
The latest update for the 15-inch Surface Laptop 3 delivers several quality-of-life improvements. Besides traditional and somewhat vague "stability and reliability improvements," users get patches that improve keyboard telemetry, fixes for bugchecks (BSOD), stability enhancements for Surface Pen and touch input, and several security patches. Microsoft says the update also delivers performance improvements for "system devices."
You can find the full changelog with driver's version numbers and detailed descriptions on the official Surface Update History website.
The August 2021 firmware update for Surface Laptop 3 is available in Windows Update. You can also download and install it using standalone installers from the official Surface Support website. Note that you will not receive new firmware unless your computer runs Windows 10 1903 (May 2019 Update) or higher. You can check your Windows versions in Windows Settings > System > About > Windows Specifications.
Unlike Surface Laptop 4, Surface Laptop 3 offers AMD processors only in 15-inch versions. The computer uses a semi-custom "Microsoft Surface Edition" version of the Ryzen 5 3580U and Ryzen 7 3780U processors. Microsoft promises to provide firmware updates for Surface Laptop 3 (both Intel and AMD versions) until October 22, 2023.
