A new build of Windows 10 features a blur effect in the Start menu!

A recent build of Windows 10 comes with a new feature - the transparent Start menu and taskbar now have a blur effect! The blur effect was present initially in Windows Vista and was very much loved by users for looking like authentic glass. Window frame borders and the title bar also had this effect. Windows 7 extended the effect to the Taskbar. In Windows 8, Microsoft removed the blur effect and kept only transparency. Many users did not like this change, however, with Windows 10, Microsoft has restored it partially.

While the window frames and title bar are still opaque and light gray in recent Windows 10 builds, the taskbar and the Start menu have this blur effect. When the user has transparency enabled for the Start menu, it looks like this:

It is quite possible that Windows 10 will get this option for window frames as well. We hope to get more details soon as the //BUILD/ conference is ongoing and Microsoft is expected to release more details on Windows 10 (via WinBeta).

  1. Still missing real Aero Glass. I mean, the transparency on window frames, it was such an eye-candy effect which I loved.
