YouTube will no longer show video recommendations to users who have turned off their browsing history. The changes took effect on August 8 and will be gradually rolled out to all users.
Instead of recommended videos, the message telling that your watch history is disabled will appear on the main page. The company explained that this change makes the service more convenient for those who prefer to search for videos on their own.
Starting today, if you have YouTube watch history off and have no significant prior watch history, features that require watch history to provide video recommendations will be disabled – like your YouTube home feed. This means that starting today, your home feed may look a lot different: you’ll be able to see the search bar and the left-hand guide menu, with no feed of recommended videos thus allowing you to more easily search, browse subscribed channels and explore Topic tabs instead.
However, users who wish to keep recommendations can change their watch history settings on the My Activity page. There, find the "YouTube history" section and turn it on if you have it disabled.
Additionally, YouTube is testing an artificial intelligence feature for summaries of video content, which is currently available to a limited number of users.
