Your Windows 10 upgrade is now scheduled for you automatically

A new round of the Windows 10 upgrade offer is starting. While interested users have up to the end of July 2016 to switch to Windows 10, others who have no plans to move to the latest OS from Redmond are still seeing nags that the upgrade has been scheduled. Since it gets scheduled to install on a specific date, your PC will automatically get upgraded to Windows 10 unless you cancel that offer.

As you may already know, Windows 10’s infamous upgrade offer has caused quite a furore amongst its users. Although the offer will end after July 29, and aggressive nags showed by the "Get Windows 10" app will disappear, users have had a hard time avoiding the upgrade. Thankfully, if the user is on Windows 7 or Windows 8, after July 29th, 2016 and wants to continue using the older OS, the Get Windows 10 app will be removed from the PC.

While this is definitely good news for those who are not planning to upgrade to Windows 10, it looks like the software giant has decided to use the remaining time to get as many people on Windows 10 as possible. Now, the upgrade to Windows 10 has become auto-scheduled without asking the end user.

Until now, the Get Windows 10 app was known for showing a prompt to upgrade. Now this behavior has changed. The app sets a scheduled upgrade date, notifying the user that his OS will be upgraded on that date:windows 10 upgrade scheduledIf the user does not pay attention to that prompt, or forgets to cancel the scheduled upgrade, his PC will be upgraded.

So, if you are someone who prefers Windows 7 or Windows 8, spend some time to verify that the upgrade is not scheduled automatically for you.

Do you plan to move to Windows 10 now almost a year after its release or do you still prefer Windows 7 or Windows 8.1? Or are you using the venerable Windows XP? Do you plan to eventually move to Windows 10? Tell us in the comments.

  1. Damn, if I’d still use one of earlier Windows version I’d be so pissed off about that nagware. If not the support that Windows provide for all those different kinds of apps I’d switch to Linux and would try to convince my family to make this step too. However, now the most rational way to solve this problem seems to be Mac OS but in order to have real stability this would require new hardware.

    1. Yeah, it requires a new Apple hardware.
In case of Linux, it will require some time to learn all basics. And I cannot tell that it will be a short period of time.
