Microsoft has released the first stable version of the Windows Package Manager for Windows 10 (aka Winget). Like package managers on other platforms e.g. on Linux, Winget makes it easy to install, update, and remove programs from a repository. This tool will be especially useful for IT professionals who manage a large number of PCs as it saves their time on software deployment.
Winget is part of the App Installer , which is distributed through the Microsoft Store. Members of the Windows Insider program must have already gotten a version of the app with Winget integrated. The rest of the users will soon automatically receive a new version of the application with Windows Package Manager 1.0 via the Microsoft Store, but only on devices running Windows 10 version 1809 or newer.
If you want to try Winget on your device now, you can download the new version of the application from the Windows Package Manager repository on GitHub. You can find more details on the Winget tool on the official Microsoft blog. By the way, you can use the Winstall.app site to view the applications available for installation through the Windows Package Manager, as well as generate a script to perform a batch install of all the selected apps.
