Microsoft today announced that Windows Embedded Standard 7 reached end of support on October 13, 2020. Devices running Windows Embedded Standard 7 will no longer receive updates.
Windows Embedded Standard 7 is based on Windows 7 and was codenamed 'Quebec'. It includes Windows 7 Desktop features like Aero, SuperFetch, ReadyBoost, Windows Firewall, Windows Defender, Address space layout randomization, Windows Presentation Foundation, Silverlight 2, Windows Media Center among several other packages. It exists in IA-32 and x64 variants. The operating system was released in 2010. It requires 300 MB of RAM just to start, which can be considered as high system requirements for an embedded OS.
Windows Embedded Standard 7 was released on April 27, 2010.
Microsoft recommends customers to migrate any remaining devices to Windows 10 IoT as quickly as possible. If it is impossible for some reason, Microsoft offers the Extended Security Update (ESU) program as a last resort. This paid program will ensure that your devices receive critical and important security updates for a maximum of three years after the end of support date, which in the case of Windows Embedded Standard 7, would be October 10, 2023.
