During the Windows 11 announcement, Microsoft revealed a new app that will be available to Windows 11 users out of the box. It lets the user communicate with friends, family, and colleagues through Microsoft Teams via a simplified UI.
This app is based on the consumer version of Microsoft Teams and allows users to quickly exchange text messages, pictures, documents, and start voice and video calls directly from the taskbar. Because Teams is a cross-platform app, you can chat with other people whether they are using PC, Android, or iOS.
At the top, you will find the Meet Now button that lets you quickly set up a video call and invite someone to it. This doesn't require a Microsoft account to join the call. In addition, the application allows you to send SMS messages on Android and iOS.
It looks like the Chat app will replace Skype as the preinstalled messaging client on Windows. Skype is also no longer included with Windows 11.

Just look at this dull UI. They’ve removed color from the title bar, from caption buttons, from ALL app icons, and even from the background and the text messages from both contacts. This has GOT to be redesigned by some color HATING person right? This is UI hitting ROCK BOTTOM.
We took a poll concerning Windows most liked characteristics, then removed all the top vote-getters. — Microsoft
To me, social media is an STD.
I just want my PC to run my games smoothly, and let me do email and online shopping securely and privately.
Okay. Thank you!
I can already see that there are some things that are going to be ripped and replaced. As Bob said, this has a lifeless interface. Although I prefer things with a dark mode, whether light or dark, bright colors for the GUI are essential to quickly pick out the elements of UI. This might, note might, not be a problem for those with good muscle memory/control, but my nervous system is failing so I spend far more time making sure that I’m pressing or clicking the right keyboard and UI elements. We don’t have to return to the bubblegum WinXP interface, which I didn’t care for, but damn, bring some color.
[This website suffers the same problem. Flipping to High Contrast is not a fix.]
This site had never had a dark theme. Are you new to winaero?
Yet another doomed to fail chat app, when will they ever learn, no one likes chatting any more, unless you are ancient!
