New AI features coming to Windows 11

  • Text processing. Windows 11 will allow you to generate and edit text in any text field and in any application. On Copilot+ PC devices, this feature will utilize the built-in neural processing unit (NPU), meaning text generation will not require an internet connection.
  • Outlook. Microsoft's email client will learn how to generate a quick overview of the contents of your inbox, helping users more effectively prioritize emails.
  • Word will receive the function of automatically generating alternative text (alt-text) for images.
  • Fluid Dictation technology. This advanced AI-powered voice tool converts spoken language into written text. According to the description, the system will not only transcribe words but also automatically correct grammar errors, add punctuation, and remove filler words and extraneous sounds in real time.

Microsoft states the AI features will be available on all Windows 11 computers, even those not classified as Copilot+ PCs. However, the device type will impact the data processing performance, which will be obviously better with NPU.

On Copilot+ PCs, the features will rely on the built-in neural processing unit (NPU), while on other devices, the features will rely on Microsoft cloud services.
