Windows 11 Build 22635.3790 (Beta) includes a few hidden features that weren't announced by Microsoft. Specially, there are new settings for the taskbar. You can disable the Notification bell button from the taskbar, and also enable a short date & time format for the system tray.
Once enabled, the settings will appear in Settings > Personalization > Taskbar.
Here's how to enable the new options.
Enable option to hide Notification bell icon
- Download the ViVeTool utility from its GitHub page.
- Unpack all the files from the downloaded archive to the c:\vivetool folder.
- Press Win+X and select Terminal (Admin) from the menu.
- Type the following command, and press Enter to execute it:
c:\vivetool\vivetool /enable /id:48433719,49082522
. - Restart your computer, and open the Settings app (Win + I) to the Personalization > Taskbar page. You'll find the new "Show Notification bell icon" option.
Enable shortened date and time in system tray
- Download the ViVeTool utility from its GitHub page.
- Unpack all the files from the downloaded archive to the c:\vivetool folder.
- Press Win+X and select Terminal (Admin) from the menu.
- Type the following command, and press Enter to execute it:
c:\vivetool\vivetool /enable /id:48433719,48525682
. - Restart your computer, and open the Settings app (Win + I) to the Personalization > Taskbar page. You'll find the new "Show shortened date and time" option.
That's it.
P.S. To undo the changes, replace /enable with /disable with each of the commands. So the commands will look as follows:
- Short date and time format:
c:\vivetool\vivetool /disable /id:48525682
- The Notification Center icon setting:
c:\vivetool\vivetool /disable /id:49082522

Nice way to squeeze out a little more space on the taskbar.
Know what would be a nice way to squeeze out even more space on the taskbar and more space for the desktop and apps? Small icons on the taskbar! When do we get that back, MS?
