Windows 11 version 25H2 is now available to Insiders in the Release Preview Channel

As of today, Windows 11 version 25H2 (Build 26200.5074) is available as an optional update for Windows Insiders enrolled in the Release Preview Channel. Users can manually check for updates through Windows Update and choose to install the feature update at their discretion. Once installed, devices will begin receiving monthly cumulative updates automatically.

Distribution Method and Technical Details

Windows 11 version 25H2 will deploy via a small activation package known as an eKB. This approach is possible because both version 24H2 and version 25H2 are based on the same underlying platform, Germanium, which shares a unified code base. The activation package activates features already present in the system through prior updates. After installation and a system restart, the new functionality becomes available.

Official ISO images for Windows 11 version 25H2 will be published on Microsoft’s website next week.

Feature Updates and Removals

This release discontinues support for certain legacy components. PowerShell 2.0 and the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMIC) command-line tool will no longer be included.

Organizations using Windows 11 Enterprise or Education editions can remove select preinstalled Microsoft Store applications using Group Policy or MDM CSP tools. Details are here.

Windows 11 version 22H2 is now accessible to business users in the Release Preview Channel through the Windows Insider for Business program. The update is already distributed via Windows Update for Business (WUfB) and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), with availability in the Azure Marketplace expected shortly. This access enables organizations to evaluate the update ahead of its general release.
