June 2023 update of the Windows Subsystem for Android (version 2305.40000.4.0) is now available on all Insider channels. It further improves file sharing via SMB, as well as includes several fixes.
The Windows Subsystem for Android allows you to share your Windows user folders, such as Documents and Pictures, with the Android OS. This enables smooth functioning of scenarios like uploading a photo on a social media app or editing a video in a creative app. The folder sharing is now enabled by default. You can be turn it on or off in the Windows Subsystem for Android settings. Upon enabling folder sharing, your Windows user profile folder (e.g., “C:\Users\<username>”) will be shared as “/sdcard/Windows” in the Subsystem.
Besides, Microsoft highlights the following changes.
- File sharing enabled.
- File transfer using drag and drop and copy and paste.
- Windows Subsystem for Android Settings (renamed to just “Windows Subsystem for Android”) redesign, including displaying all installed Android apps.
- Enable apps that specify android.hardware.type.pc in their manifest to opt into receiving raw input events.
- Wi-Fi API compatibility improvements.
- Camera hardware compatibility improvements.
- Linux kernel security update.
- Updated latest Chromium WebView to version 113.
- Android 13 security updates.
