Microsoft has announced that customers can run Windows 11 in preview on Azure Virtual Desktop. As you may already know, Azure Virtual Desktop allows users to run virtualized Windows instances in the cloud, allowing them to connect to them from virtually anywhere. Simply put, you can access your work files and applications remotely, not just from the office.
Microsoft highlights performance, security, and usability improvements, along with the new exclusive features like multi-session support, Trusted Launch that uses TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot inside the VM. It is now possible for multiple users to work with a single virtual machine.
The company has also mentioned that to have Windows 11's visual enhancements like rounder corners and rich animations, the VM configuration must include a GPU that supports them.
As of now, three configurations are available in preview:
- Windows 11 Enterprise,
- Windows 11 Enterprise multi-session,
- Windows 11 Enterprise multi-session + Microsoft 365 Apps.
Any of them requires you to be in in the Windows Insider program to access and purchase these items. Visit Azure Marketplace to proceed.
