Windows 11 is moving keyboard options from Control Panel to Settings

The Windows team has recently moved the mouse options from Control Panel to Settings, and now it is time for the keyboard settings. The actual Insider builds introduce character repeat delay and repeat rate options in the Settings app. This means their days of presence in the Control Panel are numbered.

As discovered by @phantomofearth, both Dev and Beta channel builds now expose the mentioned keyboard options under Accessibility > Keyboard. Check out the screenshot below.

By default, the new options are hidden. Microsoft is still working on them, and yet to announce the change. But it should not take long for Microsoft to make them available by default.

The keyboard character repeat delay and keyboard repeat rate are settings that control how quickly and frequently a keypress is repeated when you hold down a key. These settings can be adjusted to suit your typing preferences.

  • The repeat delay determines how long you need to hold down a key before the character starts repeating.
  • The repeat rate controls how quickly the character repeats once the initial delay has passed.
