Windows 11 is getting a new Advanced page in the Settings app

Microsoft is set to unveil a revamped "System" section within the Windows 11 Settings app that renames the "For Developers" page to "Advanced", and further improves it. In includes some features that were earlier available on the "For Developers" page, and expands the set of options with a few more, inherited from the now-discontinued Dev Home app. This is a welcome change, as the options are valuable not only for developers but also for general users.

Among the additions in the “Advanced” section are options to enable long path support in directories, configure remote desktop, and enable source code tracking in File Explorer. Furthermore, Microsoft has organized these features into intuitive sub-pages, such as Taskbar, File Explorer, Terminal, and Virtual Workspaces, enhancing usability and clarity.

Currently, the updated “Advanced” page is accessible only in Windows Server build 26404, where it remains hidden by default. The rest of Windows releases and channels continue to come with the now-classic "For Developers" page. However, it is anticipated that this functionality will soon make its way to consumer-focused versions of Windows 11 through the Insider Program. Enthusiasts should monitor upcoming builds for its inclusion.

This change aligns with Microsoft’s recent decision to discontinue the Dev Home app, integrating its core functionalities directly into the operating system.

Microsoft continues to refine Windows 11 Settings, ensuring the app evolves to meet the needs of both technical and everyday users. Just recently the Redmond software giant added all the keyboard and mouse options to the Settings app, which were earlier part of the classic Control Panel.
