The latest Insider Preview of Windows 11 is full of small surprises which were not announced. Besides the updated style of legacy context menus, it also includes a new file grouping criteria in File Explorer.
After installing Windows 11 build 22494, some users found out a new entry in File Explorer. When they right-click a directory background, and head over the Group by item, they noticed a new criteria - Total Size.
Sadly, this menu is only available to a small select group of Windows Insiders. One of our devices has received it, but another one isn't.
In our opinion, there is a little chance that Microsoft will include this improvement in a cumulative update for stable Windows 11 releases. While Microsoft is about to update Windows 11 with new features faster, this one won't reach the production branch soon.
Unlike Windows 10, which is receiving two releases a year, Windows 11 will be getting only one feature update. This is the reason behind including new features into smaller updates. By releasing such updates, Microsoft will improve the user experience without forcing them to install huge feature updates and wait a long time for it.
Besides the updated context menus File Explorer, the latest Dev builds including a few more useful additions. You can now change the sound volume level by scrolling over the speaker tray icon, without opening the volume flyout. Also, Windows 11 now allows muting the mic using a new button in the notification area during your Microsoft Teams calls.

Looks like a bug since this particular Group By context menu actually appears for This PC. Anyway, I am genuinely curious what is new about it since in Vista onwards, you can right click Group by and select “More” to group by any property.
