What's new in Windows 11 Builds 26100.7701 and 26200.7701 for Release Preview

Gradual rollout

Copilot+ PCs experiences

Agent in Settings

New! The Settings Agent expands language support to include German, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, Italian, and Chinese (Simplified).

Windows 11 PC experiences

Cross Device Resume

New! This update extends Cross-Device Resume functionality, initially introduced in the May 2025 Windows non-security update (KB5058499). Users may resume activities from supported Android phones on their PC, including Spotify playback, Microsoft Office applications, and web browsing sessions.

Vivo device users can continue browsing sessions from Vivo Browser.

Users of Android phones from HONOR, OPPO, Samsung, Vivo, or Xiaomi can resume online files opened in the Microsoft Copilot app on their phone; files open in the corresponding installed Microsoft 365 application or the default web browser if the application is unavailable.

This feature does not support files stored exclusively offline on the phone.

Windows MIDI Services

New! This update enhances MIDI support on Windows with comprehensive compatibility for MIDI 0 and MIDI 2.0 standards. Improvements include full WinMM and WinRT MIDI 1.0 support with built-in translation, shared MIDI ports across applications, custom port naming, loopback and application-to-application MIDI routing, and performance optimizations.

The App SDK and Tools package, available separately via the Windows MIDI Services landing page and GitHub, enables in-box MIDI 0 features and includes utilities such as MIDI Console and the MIDI Settings app. Current releases are unsigned and may trigger security warnings during download or installation.

Narrator

New! Narrator provides additional control over announcement details for on-screen controls. Users may select which attributes Narrator speaks and define their sequence to align with navigation patterns. These settings apply consistently across applications to minimize extraneous speech and improve usability.

Settings

New! The Settings home page displays a Device card showing essential PC specifications and usage information. Users may navigate directly to Settings > System > About for comprehensive device details. This card appears when signed in with a Microsoft account.

Rollout of this feature resumes following a pause during the August 2025 release. Availability is currently limited to the United States.

Smart App Control

New! Users may enable or disable Smart App Control without performing a clean installation. Access this setting via Windows Security > App & Browser Control > Smart App Control. When active, Smart App Control helps block untrusted or potentially harmful applications.

Voice Access

New! A revised setup process simplifies initial configuration for Voice Access. The updated flow guides users through downloading the speech model for their selected language, choosing an input microphone, and reviewing core functionality.

Voice Typing

New! Voice Typing includes a configurable Wait time before acting setting. Users may adjust the delay preceding command execution to accommodate individual speech patterns and improve recognition accuracy.

Windows Hello

New! Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security (ESS) now supports external fingerprint sensors. This update extends secure sign-in capabilities to desktops and other Windows 11 PCs beyond devices with integrated sensors. To configure, connect a supported ESS fingerprint reader, navigate to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options, and complete enrollment.

Start Menu

  • Fixed: This update resolves an issue where the shutdown warning message, displayed when additional users remain logged in, could truncate at the Start menu boundary.
  • Fixed: This update corrects Start menu positioning on displays using Arabic or Hebrew language settings when taskbar icons are not centered.

Kiosk mode

Changed: This update removes an error message that could appear after login in multi-app kiosk mode stating, “This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer”.

Windows Update

Fixed: This update addresses an issue where initiating Windows Insider Program enrollment from Settings > Windows Update could stall.

Lock screen

Improved: This update implements underlying modifications to resolve scenarios where the lock screen became unresponsive.

File Explorer

Improved: This update applies internal refinements to enhance File Explorer responsiveness when navigating network locations.

Logging into your PC

Fixed: This update resolves a condition where explorer.exe could hang during initial login if specific applications were configured as startup items, potentially preventing taskbar display.

Activation

Fixed: This update corrects scenarios where valid Windows license migration failed during upgrades due to inability to register with the Windows Activation server for CLIP or online entitlement, previously requiring troubleshooter intervention.

Desktop icons

Fixed: This update addresses unexpected movement of desktop icons during file interactions such as opening or renaming.

Input

Fixed: This update corrects reversed labels for keyboard character repeat delay settings in Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Keyboard.

UAC

Fixed: This update resolves system freezes that could occur when attempting to launch Windows Terminal with elevated privileges from a non-administrator account.

Feature availability depends on device configuration and regional market. Certain features are not available in the European Economic Area.

Normal rollout

Secure Boot

This release for Windows 11 version 24H2 executes Boot Manager updates on devices containing the Windows UEFI CA 2023 certificate in the Secure Boot Signature Database (DB), replacing the 2011-signed bootmgfw.efi with the 2023-signed version. Resetting the DB or enabling Secure Boot may rarely trigger a “Secure Boot violation” error; creating Secure Boot recovery media resolves this condition.

Security

New! This update introduces configurable rotation intervals for Data Protection Application Programming Interface (DPAPI) domain backup keys. Administrators may define automatic key rotation frequency to strengthen cryptographic security and reduce dependency on legacy encryption algorithms.

Start Menu

Fixed: This update resolves an issue where selecting the “hide this pane” button in the mobile device side panel did not navigate to the corresponding hide setting.

Display and Graphics

Fixed: This update addresses black screen occurrences in isolated multiuser environments, typically following a Windows upgrade.

Narrator

Fixed: This update corrects a failure condition preventing Narrator from initializing during Windows installation from an ISO file.

Other

  • Fixed: This update resolves a startup crash scenario when Windows Boot Manager debugging is enabled, related to kdstub.dll and kdnet.dll components.
  • Fixed: This update addresses iSCSI boot failures resulting in an “Inaccessible Boot Device” error.
  • Fixed: This update corrects non-compliance flags raised by BinSkim against C Runtime (CRT) libraries in the Windows Software Development Kit per Microsoft Security Development Lifecycle requirements.
