Windows 11 Build 28020.1495 (Canary) allows using WEBP images as wallpaper

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Build 28020.1495 (KB5074168) to Windows Insiders in the Canary channel. The update introduces a new feature that allows users to set .webp image files as desktop backgrounds through Settings > Personalization > Background options. Microsoft also added several improvements to enhance the overall operating system experience.

What's new in Windows 11 Build 28020.1495 (Canary)

Desktop background

  • Users can now set.webp images as desktop backgrounds via Settings > Personalization > Background.

Fixes

General

  • This update includes a small number of improvements and fixes designed to improve the overall operating system experience.

Start Menu

  • Fixed an issue where the edge of the warning dialog displayed when shutting down a PC (if there were other active users still logged in) was cut off by the edge of the Start menu.

Input

  • Fixed an issue that could cause a black flash to appear when using the pen in the Snipping Tool.

Nutrition

  • Fixed an issue where the shutdown screen was incorrectly displaying "Restart" text for some Insiders.

Settings

  • Fixed an issue that could cause the Windows Update page to freeze when opening it.
  • Fixed an issue where language components were not downloading for Australia (English - Australia) under Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region. Clicking the button did nothing.

Other

  • Fixed an issue causing some Insiders to experience a bugcheck (GSOD) with the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. This issue was related to the use of certain smart card readers.

General

  • [Updated] Desktop watermark is using the wrong build number.

File Explorer

  • [New] Working on a fix for an issue where all open File Explorer windows and tabs sometimes unexpectedly move to the Desktop or Home page.
