Windows 11 Build 27971 (Canary) makes Notification Center open in the active display

Microsoft has released Windows 11 build 27971 to Windows Insiders in the Canary channel. It comes with various fixes, and also allows the Notification Center pane to open on the active display in multi-monitor setups.

New features

Notification Center

  • Microsoft has enabled Notification Center functionality on additional monitors. This means you'll be able to see your calendar on any of your monitors, as well as the ability to display a larger clock and seconds display above your calendar. You can open Notification Center on any monitor by clicking the date and time in the system tray on the taskbar.Notification Center
    Note: This feature is rolling out gradually, so it may not be available to all Insiders in the Canary ring.

Fixes

File Explorer

  • Fixed an issue where File Explorer would crash when transferring files to a network drive.

Lock and login screen

  • Fixed an issue from the previous flight where media controls might not appear on the lock screen.

Input

  • Fixed an issue with microsoft.ink.dll and related APIs that could cause pen and ink input in applications to not work correctly or to crash due to unexpected exceptions.

Other

  • Fixed an issue that caused crashes when playing protected content in some applications.
  • Fixed an issue affecting the startup of Hyper-V virtual machines with a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) on ARM64 devices.

Known issues

Settings

  • The Settings app may crash when attempting to access disk information under Settings > System > Storage. This issue also affects access to disk information through the Properties dialog box accessed by right-clicking a disk in File Explorer.

Start Menu

  • [New] Insiders may experience the new Start menu scrolling up unexpectedly when interacting with it.

Power and battery

  • Investigating reports that some Insiders are experiencing sleep and shutdown issues after installing the latest Canary builds.
