Windows 11 Build 27928 (Canary) Improves the Settings App

Windows 11 Build 27928 is now available in the Canary channel of the Insider program. Starting with today's build, Insiders will notice that the branch name from which builds are released has changed to BR_RELEASE. This is due to internal development cycles of the operating system. The Windows Insider team treats these builds the same as builds from the RS_PRERELEASE branch. However, due to the branch change, some features have been temporarily removed from Windows 11 Insider builds. Microsoft plans to bring them back in the future. BR_RELEASE builds do not represent any feature update for Windows 11.

      • You can now add additional clocks in Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time, under the collapsed Show time and date on the taskbar item. Additional clocks are displayed in the Notification Center, as well as in a tooltip when you hover over the clock on the taskbar.
      • You can now change the time synchronization server in Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time in the Advanced Settings subsection.
      • The date and time formatting settings have been moved from Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region to  Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time . You can also now change the AM/PM symbol (along with other existing formatting settings).

  • Fixed an issue where accidentally clicking or moving the mouse over an app thumbnail on the taskbar would cause the thumbnail to become unresponsive.

Login and Lock Screen

  • Changes have been made to address issues that could result in a blank white screen or a screen with the message "Please wait a minute" appearing for several minutes when logging in.
  • Made changes to address an issue that could cause the taskbar to load slowly after waking the PC from sleep. This issue could also cause the password field and other elements to not appear when navigating from the lock screen to the sign-in screen.

  • Fixed an issue where changing the opacity of live subtitles in Settings > Accessibility > Subtitles > Subtitle Style did not work.

Settings

  • Fixed an issue where Settings might crash when trying to add a security key under Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.

Known issues

General

  • Investigating reports of the file scanning process freezing in Settings > System > Storage > Temporary files. We're also investigating an issue where Previous Windows installations aren't showing up.
  • When launched cmdwithout administrator rights, the Run dialog may open the Windows Console Host instead of Windows Terminal, even if Windows Terminal is set as the default application. As a temporary workaround, you can type wtin the Run dialog to launch Windows Terminal directly.

Working with windows

  • With this build, users may experience an increased number of Desktop Window Manager (DWM) crashes, which may result in a brief black screen.

File Explorer

  • In this build, the dark theme may cause the red color used to indicate a drive with low free space in This PC to appear unexpectedly light. Some other colors may also appear incorrectly, such as black being used to indicate remaining space instead of the more visible color.
