What's new in Windows 11 Build 27909 (Canary)

General

  • The build includes a limited set of general improvements to enhance the overall experience for users running this release.

Fixes

Administrator Protection

  • Resolved an underlying issue that prevented the Xbox app from launching when administrator protection was active. This fix may also address similar launch failures in other applications that displayed error codes 0xC0000142 or 0xC0000045.

Settings

  • Restored the battery percentage indicator at the top of the System > Power & Battery section, which was missing in recent builds.

Remote Desktop

  • Addressed graphical distortion and rendering problems observed when using Remote Desktop on Arm64 devices.

Other

  • Resolved a frequently occurring crash related to pcasvc.dll in the previous build.
  • Fixed an issue where Media Player continued to display a disconnect option after the casting target was disconnected externally.
  • Corrected failures in Remote Credential Guard scenarios between recent Windows 11 builds and Windows Server 2022 or earlier versions.

Known Issues

General

  • Important Note for Copilot+ PCs: Users migrating to the Canary Channel from the Dev Channel, Release Preview Channel, or retail on Copilot+ PCs may lose access to Windows Hello PIN and biometric sign-in, encountering error 0xd0000225 with the message “Something went wrong, and your PIN isn’t available.” Affected users can re-establish their PIN using the “Set up my PIN” option.
  • A small number of Insiders may experience recurring KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE bugchecks after upgrading, particularly when connecting to a VPN.
  • This build plays the Windows Vista boot sound instead of the default Windows 11 sound. Microsoft plans to correct this in a future Canary Channel release.

Settings

  • Microsoft is investigating a crash that occurs in Settings when navigating options under System > Power & Battery.
  • Some apostrophes in Settings and related dialog boxes appear as random characters. The issue is under review.
