Windows 11 Build 27863 (Canary) Comes with Fixes for Safe Mode and Sandbox

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Build  27863, to Windows Insiders participants using the Canary channel. Key changes  include Post-quantum cryptography, and various fixes. The latter includes reliability improvements for the Safe Mode and Windows Sandbox.

Changes and improvements

Post-quantum cryptography

    • As  announced at Build 2025, Microsoft has added support for the ML-DSA post-quantum signature algorithm to the NCrypt and BCrypt cryptography APIs, as well as the Crypt32 certificate APIs. Three variants are supported: ML-DSA 44, 65, and 87. Microsoft recommends testing the use and validation of ML-DSA certificates with these changes.

Fixes

Windows Sandbox

    • Fixed an issue where Windows Sandbox would not work in the previous build, displaying an error message with the code 0xc0370106 on launch.

Other

    • Fixed an issue where core Windows interface components (File Explorer, Start menu, etc.) would not load in Safe Mode.
    • Fixed an msftedit.dll issue that caused applications such as Sticky Notes and Dxdiag to crash on Arabic or Hebrew language systems.

Known issues

General

    • [Important note for Copilot+ devices] If you are upgrading to the Canary channel from the Dev, Release Preview, or Stable channels on a Copilot+ device, you will encounter an issue using your PIN or biometrics when attempting to sign in. You will see the error "Something went wrong, your PIN is not available" with the code 0xd0000225. To reset your PIN, click the "Set up PIN" button.
    • When opening the Group Policy Editor, you may see an error message related to Administrative Templates. If you click OK, you should be able to continue working as normal. One of the issues is fixed in this build, and a second fix is ​​coming soon.
    • Engineers are investigating an issue where the taskbar isn't using the Acrylic effect after updating to this build.
    • Engineers are investigating an issue where audio devices with high sample rates (eg 192Hz) and multiple channels may not play audio after updating to this build.

Input

    • On some devices, handwriting input with a pen may not work.

Task Manager

    • In this build, search and other options such as filtering do not work in Task Manager.
