Windows 11 Build 26120.3576 (Dev & Beta) improves Voice Access

Microsoft has released Windows 11 build 26120.3576 (KB5053650),to Insiders in the Dev and Beta channels. Besides fixes, it features more intuitive and convenient Voice Access.

Advertisеment

Recently, Insiders in the Beta channel have been receiving the same Windows 11 version 24H2 builds that are released to the Dev channel. The updates are currently optional, so you can choose the right time to upgrade to the new OS version.

24h2 Optional Update Beta Dev Channel

Later, the update will become a recommended update, meaning your PC will automatically update to 24H2 if you're on the Beta channel. Until then, both Windows 11 24H2 and Windows 11 23H2 builds will be released on the Beta channel.

If you are on the Dev channel, you now have the option to upgrade to the Beta channel. This option will be available as long as the Dev and Beta channels receive the same builds. At the end of February, the Dev channel will receive higher build numbers, and it will no longer be possible to upgrade to the Beta channel.

Future builds on the Dev channel may not be as stable as they are now. Microsoft strongly recommends that you consider which update channel you want to stay on.

What's new on the Dev channel

More intuitive and convenient voice control

Copilot+ PC devices with Snapdragon processors now offer more flexible voice control when using existing commands.

Traditionally, Voice Access voice commands required a fixed syntax, which made the experience rigid and sometimes frustrating. For example, if you said "Could you open the Edge app" instead of "Open Edge," which is the actual command, it wouldn’t work. With this improvement, you can now say "Could you open the Edge app," or "Switch to Microsoft Edge," or "Please open the Edge browser." Voice Access understands your intent and takes the appropriate action for the voice command you say. This means you no longer have to pause and remember the exact wording of the command. Just say whatever feels most intuitive.

Additionally, Voice Access will display real-time command suggestions based on your last phrase to help you remember the right command.

Voice Access Suggestions

Changes and improvements for the Dev channel

Voice access

    • Voice Access now supports Chinese. You can now use it to navigate, type, and interact with Windows using voice commands in Simplified Chinese (zh-cn) and Traditional Chinese (zn-tw).

Fixes for the Dev channel

File Explorer

    • Fixed an issue where the More Info (...) menu in the toolbar would open in the wrong direction when using screens with certain resolutions.

    • Fixed an issue where the login screen could freeze when clicking the "Sign-in options" link.

Recall (Preview)

    • Fixed an issue where when using Recall on a PC managed by your organization's IT admin (i.e. signed in with a Microsoft Entra ID), you might notice that previously taken snapshots were deleted when installing Build 26120.3380. Snapshots were also deleted every time the device was restarted.

Settings

    • Fixed an issue where an unexpected amount of empty space would appear at the top of the Settings > System > Sound page and some other pages.

Printing

    • Fixed an issue where some Insiders might see a message stating that the OneNote print driver is not working.
    • Fixed an issue where non-administrator users could not delete printers they had added.

Known issues

General

    • [New] When joining the Dev and Beta channels, you will be offered Windows 11 24H2 Build 26120.3360. Once you install it, you will be on the latest build. The two-step update to get the latest build is a temporary mechanism.
    • [New] If you use the Windows Update troubleshooter in Settings > System > Recovery, you'll get error code 0×80070005 when trying to reinstall the build.
    • [New] The "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" toggle is not displayed correctly and sometimes turns off on its own. This is a visual issue that will be fixed in future builds.
    • After resetting the system settings in Settings > System > Recovery, the build number may change to 26100 instead of 26120. This will not affect receiving future updates on the Dev channel, which will fix the issue.

Recall

    • [Reminder] Be sure to update your Microsoft 365 apps to the latest version so you can get back to certain documents.
    • [New] Recall fails to save new photos or apply settings. This issue will be fixed in a future build.
    • [New] Some Insiders may encounter an issue where Recall is unable to automatically save photos, and the feature cannot be enabled in Settings. Working on a fix.
    • Recall can be enabled or disabled in the "Turn Windows features on or off" section. At the moment, Recall files remain on the disk even after the feature is disabled. In future updates, these files will be completely removed from the system.

Click to Do

    • [Updated 03/17/2025] Intelligent text actions now use local suggestion and response moderation instead of a cloud-based solution. Since intelligent text actions are now fully local, they are now available in Click to Do in Recall.
    • [Reminder] If some actions with objects in images are not displayed, check for updates to the Photos and Paint apps in the Microsoft Store.
    • Sometimes, intelligent text actions based on Phi Silica may provide unnecessary context. This issue will be fixed in future Windows Insider builds.

Improved search

    • [Reminder] To improve the Windows Search experience on Copilot+ PC devices, it is recommended that you connect your computer to a power source to complete the initial indexing. You can check the search indexing status in Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Search.

File Explorer

    • Engineers are investigating an issue where File Explorer closes very slowly for some Insiders when they click the X button in the title bar. This issue may also affect other buttons in the title bar.
    • [New] We're working on a fix for an issue where the Home page in File Explorer crashes for some Insiders. If you launch File Explorer from another folder (like through Search or the Run dialog), you'll be able to navigate your folders.

Taskbar

    • [New] Working on a fix for an issue where taskbar icons don't expand as much as they should when using your PC in tablet mode.

Task Manager

    • After adding the new "CPU Load" column, you may notice that the load for the "System Idle" process is always 0.
    • The CPU graphs on the Performance page still use the old CPU usage calculations.
