Windows 11 Build 26120.2222 adds another way to launch apps as Administrator

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Build 26120.2222 with KB5046746 to Insiders in the Dev channel. It allows running apps elevated from the Start menu with ctrl + shift + click, and including several important fixes. Note that some of the changes are first coming to Insiders with the "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" toggle turned on in Settings > Windows Update. The rest will receive them a bit later.

Changes for insiders with the option enabled

Changes and improvements

General

  • If you Shift-click or Ctrl-click an item in the Jump List on the Start menu or taskbar, the item will run as an administrator, just as if you had Shift-clicked or Ctrl-clicked the application icon. For example, if you right-click Windows Terminal and Shift-click or Ctrl-click before selecting PowerShell, the PowerShell window will open as an administrator.

Fixes

File Explorer

  • Fixed an issue where the More Info menu (the "..." button) would open in the wrong direction, causing it to appear off-screen.

Input

  • Fixed an issue where the mouse could become disconnected from the game window on multi-monitor systems after opening and then closing the Game Bar, resulting in you being unable to use the mouse in the game.

Windows

  • Fixed an issue where open windows might move to a different position on the screen after waking from sleep if you're using a device with multiple monitors.

Other

  • Fixed an issue where Registry Editor could become unresponsive if you pressed the Alt key after clicking a license information link in the About window.

Known issues

Narrator

  • [New] [Important] There is an issue in this build where Narrator crashes on startup if you use one of the natural voices (like Jenny). Narrator users are advised to pause updates in Windows Update. If you have already installed the new build and are experiencing the issue, a temporary workaround is to switch to a different voice, like Microsoft David. You can do this in Settings > Ease of Access > Narrator. However, because Narrator crashes on startup, you will need to use a different screen reader or have someone else change your Narrator settings.

Desktop

  • [New] Working on a fix for an issue where the desktop background may sometimes not display correctly across multiple monitors, causing large black areas to appear.
