Microsoft is looking for a way to optimize and speed up the taskbar in Windows 11. The Dev channel Build 25182 includes a hidden configuration option that significantly improves the taskbar performance. However, the price for this is a missing opening animation.
Microsoft continues to experiment with the taskbar in Windows 11. So, in the latest insider build, the company removed the new animation for icons on the taskbar, but added a new hidden change. It is designed to speed up the loading of this system component.
To solve the problem with the slow loading of the taskbar, Microsoft launches it in parallel with Immersive Shell. This change significantly reduces the time required for the taskbar and icons to appear. See the following video.
This feature is hidden and isn't enabled by default. You need to turn it on manually using the ViveTool utility. Do the following.
How to enable fast taskbar loading in Windows 11
- Download ViveTool from its official GitHub page.
- Extract the downloaded archive to the c:\ViveTool folder.
- Right-click the Start button and select Terminal(Admin) from the menu.
- In either PowerShell or Command Prompt tab type the following command:
c:\vivetool\vivetool.exe /enable /id:39751186 /store:both
. - Once you see the "Successfully set feature configuration" message, restart the Explorer shell.
Done! Now you will notice that the taskbar opens much faster. As mentioned above, it won't play the starting animations for icons. I do believe that some users will like this change.
If you aren't happy with the change, you can always reverse it using the following command:
c:\vivetool\vivetool.exe /disable /id:39751186 /store:both
Don't forget to issue it in the evelated console, e.g. in Windows Terminal running as Administrator.
That's it.
