Windows 11 Build 22635.3858 (Beta) updates Alt + Tab and Run dialog

Windows 11 Build 22635.3858 is now available to Insiders in the Beta channel. It comes with the updated Alt + Tab dialog where you can clearly see if a File Explorer window has tabs. Also, the Run dialog looks better with HiDPI, along with some other features and fixes.

⚠️ Microsoft rolls out some features only for users with Get the latest updates as soon as they're available option enabled. The rest will get them much later. However, keep in mind that even if you enable the option, the new features will anyway be shipped gradually to your PC.

Changes for insiders with the toggle enabled

  • File Explorer: The thumbnail preview in Alt + Tab and Task View will now indicate whether the window contains multiple tabs.
  • Share dialog: Microsoft is rolling out minor changes to the Share window UI to make it a little simpler. Specifically, they removed the search box.
  • For developers: Updated the logic of the "End task" option in the context menu for applications on the taskbar. Now it will not display the "Application is not responding" dialog to confirm the end of the task.
  • Other: Updated the Run dialog to respect the DPI scaling settings set in Options > Accessibility > Text Size.

Fixes

  • Fixed several accessibility issues that could cause File Explorer and the Common File Dialog (CFD) to not respond correctly when changing text size or zoom settings.
    • Also fixed an issue where the file name could be truncated in dialog boxes.
  • Fixed several accessibility issues that were occurring for screen reader users. Content was not being read correctly, and keyboard focus was not moving correctly. In some cases, keyboard focus was completely lost when using the Shift + Tab shortcut, and Narrator stuttered during search.
  • Fixed an issue where some users were seeing a thin line between the tab bar and the address bar in File Explorer.
  • Fixed an issue that affected the stability of Explorer for some insiders.
  • Fixed an issue resulting in the OneDrive icon in the address bar sometimes appearing blurry for some Insiders.

Changes for everyone

Voice Access

Fixed an issue believed to be the root cause of errors when trying to use Voice Access in some languages, such as Chinese.

Taskbar

Flashing application icons on the taskbar are now easier to spot.

Other changes

  • You can now use OneDrive as a RemoteApp in Azure Virtual Desktop.
  • This update improves the Virtual Filtering Platform (VFP) on Windows hosts. VFP now supports broader packet capture, making troubleshooting easier.
  • Fixed an issue where Group Policy could fail to detect a slow network speed when it assumed a fast connection was present.
  • Fixed an issue where you couldn't sign in to Azure Virtual Desktop sessions.
  • Fixed an issue that causes Storage Spaces Direct (S2D) and Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) to fail on SMBdirect networks and cause cluster management to become unavailable.
  • Fixed an issue where the firewall profile could switch from domain to public when adding or removing interfaces.
  • Fixed an issue where GPUs would not go into idle state, negatively impacting power savings.
  • Fixed an issue where audio would become distorted when using the Snipping Tool to record video on some PCs.
  • This update adds a registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM ForceDisableModeChangeAnimation(REG_DWORD) that disables the display mode change animation when set to 1 (or non-zero), and enables it when set to 0 or the key is missing.
  • Updated Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA) profiles for some mobile operators.
  • Fixed an issue that occurred in the Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) driver. It led to increased load on the device's central processor and reduced throughput. This update improves the handling of network packets in WFP to also help prevent performance degradation. Added batch processing to reduce CPU load.
  • Fixed an issue where the suggestion list in the Input Method Editor (IME) might not appear or might appear in the wrong place.

  • Unpinning Widgets from the taskbar may not work if the taskbar is centered instead of left aligned.
