What's new in Windows 11 Build 22631.5261

Gradual roll-out

Narrator

  • A new feature called Speech Recap has been added that will allow you to track what Narrator has said and quickly access it for reference. With simple keyboard shortcuts, you can quickly access spoken content, follow the real-time transcription, and copy what Narrator last said.

Phone link

  • The Windows 11 Start menu has a new sidebar which offers a quick and easy way to interact with your connected smartphone. You can use it to make phone calls, send text messages, access your photos, and share content between your PC and smartphone.

Widgets

  • Web developers can now use existing web content to create dynamic and interactive widgets that can be added to the Widgets panel in Windows 11. You can read more about this in Microsoft's documentation.

File Explorer

  • The Home page in File Explorer now shows personalized elements to help you easily access your Microsoft 365 content on Windows.
  • The performance of extracting archived files in Explorer has been improved. This will be especially noticeable when unpacking a large number of small files.

Share function

  • Now, in the Share window, you can quickly make edits to the image you send, such as cropping, rotating, or applying a filter.

Start Menu

  • Fixed an issue where you couldn't switch between pinned app pages in the Start menu using touch.
  • Fixed an issue where, when using a larger text size, the Sign Out and More options buttons might not appear in the Account Manager in the Start menu.

Taskbar

  • Fixed an issue where after using the Win + T keyboard shortcut, the arrow keys would work in the wrong direction on an Arabic or Hebrew system.

Available to all users

  • This update fixes an issue affecting the USBxHCI controller and all USB-connected devices on PCs based on the latest Intel processor architecture. The built-in USB camera will not work for signing in with Windows Hello unless you manually disable Enhanced Sign-in Security (ESS). To disable ESS, go to  Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Advanced options > Sign in with an external camera or fingerprint reader > toggle the switch to ON. If you create a Windows Hello container in Windows 11, version 23H2, it may prevent you from using ESS after updating to Windows 11, version 24H2.

Server Message Block (SMB)

Fixed an issue where an Excel file hosted on an SMB file share with Access Based Enumeration enabled and containing references to multiple other files hosted on network shares might take longer than expected to open.

Xbox

  • Fixed an issue with Xbox Elite Wireless Controllers running certain firmware versions where the keyboard might not work and would show an error indicator in Device Manager.
  • Fixed an issue where the Driver Verifier would stop responding during game controller driver certification, impacting Windows Hardware Quality Labs testing.

Windows kernel vulnerable driver blocklist file (DriverSiPolicy.p7b)

  • New drivers vulnerable to Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) attacks have been added to the list.
