Windows 11 Build 22621.5984 Preview Released: Key Fixes and Updates

Microsoft has rolled out a new non-security preview optional update for Windows 11. It is available via KB5065790 and applies to version 23H2. After installing, you will have Build 22621.5984 in the OS version tag. This release comes with some quality improvements and also introduces select new features. Here are the details.

Authentication Stability

The update resolves a sign-in screen freeze that occurred after users entered their SIM PIN during mobile broadband authentication.

Browser Compatibility Enhancement

Microsoft Edge no longer hangs when operating in Internet Explorer compatibility mode due to specific same-domain redirects.

Mobile Operator Profile Updates

COSA profiles now reflect current configurations for select mobile network operators.

Display and Remote Session Reliability

The update prevents unexpected system shutdowns during RDP sessions with multiple monitors, particularly when users disconnect from a docking station mid-stream.

Input Method Editor Corrections

Chinese IME now renders all characters correctly. Additionally, the update fixes an issue where certain Chinese characters displayed as empty boxes in constrained text fields, including those in Connection Manager Administration Kit.

Networking Protocol Restoration

Users regain access to shared files and folders over SMB v1 via NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT), resolving connectivity issues introduced after installing KB5065431.

Printer Queue Interface Fix

Viewing shared printer queues in Settings no longer causes the Print Queue interface to crash.

Service Metadata Correction

The McpManagement service now displays its proper description within the Windows services interface.

There are no known issues this time.
