Microsoft finally makes Windows Subsystem for Android available in more countries. Until now, it was officially available in the US and Japan. The company expands this tiny list to total 31 countries.
Feature-wise there will be no changes. Amazon App store remains the only source for apps. Installing Google Play and sideloading APKs are still not officially supported scenario.
The number of apps supported by WSA is now around 20,000. It is far from what Google Play can offer. However, in supported countries the Microsoft Store will now showcase the Android apps and include them in search results. This way users will be able to quickly find them, install and run.
Starting today, The Amazon Appstore Preview is available in the following countries and regions.
- Andorra
- Austria
- Belgium
- France
- Germany
- Gibraltar
- Guernsey
- Ireland
- Isle of Man
- Italy
- Japan
- Jersey
- Liechtenstein
- Luxembourg
- Monaco
- San Marino
- Spain
- Switzerland
- United Kingdom
- United States
- Vatican City / Holy See
Microsoft says the support for Android apps generated notable interest from both users and developers. But it is still a work in progress so it has some rough edges and a room for improvements, with the latter frequently coming to WSA. Earlier this month, several performance and reliability improvements landed in WSA, along with compatibility with joysticks, gamepads and WebView 104.
