Microsoft tests a new feature in Windows 11 that allows performing an internet speed test directly from the system tray or quick actions menu. A right-click on the network icon in the taskbar displays a new option labeled "Perform Speed Test," accompanied by a dedicated icon. Additionally, a "Test internet speed" button appears in the Wi-Fi section of the quick actions panel, located in the lower-right area of the screen.
The update was first spotted by a well-known Windows enthusiast, @phantomofearth. Image credits go to him.
Currently, Windows does not run tests locally. Instead, it redirects users to a web service. Selecting either option launches the default browser and loads the Bing internet speed test. This action does the same as manually searching for "speedtest" on Bing.
The update is currently available to select members of the Windows Insider Program enrolled in the Canary, Dev, and Beta channels. Microsoft is yet to reveal it officially.
