Microsoft released Windows 11 version 23H2 on September 26, 2023, introducing significant enhancements and new capabilities to the operating system. This update comes with expanded artificial intelligence integration, including the debut of Windows Copilot assistant, and establishes native support for RAR and 7Z archive formats for the first time in Windows history. The update maintains identical hardware requirements to previous versions and allows existing Windows 11 users to upgrade free of charge.

The update introduces substantial improvements across core system components, including a redesigned Settings application with interactive home page cards, enhanced file management capabilities in File Explorer, and updated productivity applications such as Notepad with tab support and Paint with layer functionality. Additional enhancements are improved screen casting features, dynamic lighting controls for compatible RGB devices, and advanced accessibility options including passwordless authentication methods and expanded Narrator capabilities with natural voice support.

The company advises organizations to migrate to Windows 11 version 24H2 to maintain access to current features and security enhancements. Organizations should consider that several compatibility concerns may prevent successful upgrades to this operating system version.

Known Upgrade Blockers

Microsoft has identified multiple technical issues that may interfere with the update process.

  • Presence of drivers utilizing SenseShield technology
  • Issues with integrated camera driver compatibility
  • Incompatible Intel Smart Sound Technology audio drivers
  • Third-party wallpaper customization applications
  • Dirac sound enhancement software

Organizations planning to upgrade should evaluate their current system configurations against these known issues before initiating the update process.
