Microsoft has officially released the Windows 11 2025 Update, version 25H2. This year’s annual operating system update deploys as a small enablement package (eKB). Such packages activate features already added to the OS with prior cumulative updates, minimizing installation time and system disruption.
Windows 11 shares its codebase with its predecessor, version 25H2. Both operate on the Germanium platform. Microsoft will deliver identical cumulative updates to both versions moving forward. Users will continue to receive new features through regular monthly updates as part of the company’s continuous innovation strategy.
Enhanced Security Through Secure Future Initiative
The Windows 11 2025 Update incorporates key advancements under Microsoft’s Secure Future Initiative. It introduces improved build-time and runtime vulnerability detection capabilities alongside AI-assisted secure programming tools. Microsoft developed this release in strict alignment with the Secure Development Lifecycle (SDL) to address and mitigate emerging security threats.
Removal of Legacy Components
Version 25H2 removes outdated components: Microsoft has deprecated PowerShell 2.0 and the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMIC) command-line interface from the operating system.
New Enterprise Capabilities
The update adds native support for Wi-Fi 7, enhancing connectivity for enterprise environments. Additionally, IT administrators managing Windows 11 Enterprise and Education editions can now uninstall certain preinstalled Microsoft Store applications using Group Policy or MDM CSP configurations.
No New Features
There are no new features in this release. There is nothing new in the user interface, there are no new features for consumers.
