While Microsoft is busy working on the next major update for Windows 10, named Creators Update, there are rumors floating around about the next wave of Redstone updates and its features. Microsoft is in the planning stage for the next major update right now and one of the the internal presentations has leaked into the hands of some beta enthusiasts. From the concepts in it, we now know that Microsoft is planning to evolve the current Metro Design Language 2 used in Windows 10 into something new, codenamed Project NEON.
The original source of the leak says that Microsoft has been working on Project NEON for around a year already. The goal of this new project isn't just to replace the current design patterns but to expand them making the experience more consistent and fluid on all of the devices running Windows 10, including PCs, Mobile, HoloLens and other VR-devices.
The updated UI will feature more animations and transitions all over it while developers will benefit from new "clear and consistent guidelines when designing their apps".
Windows 10 was criticized for an inconsistent user interface many times and Microsoft seems to be finally working on fixing that. The most interesting part of the concept is that the company is planning to create a similar experience for both PC and VR even if users' way of interaction with these devices is completely different.
We don't have much details about it yet, but the concept itself seems interesting enough to play with. Redstone 3 is almost a year away from us but it starting to look like a pretty major update in terms of user experience since the entire design language will be overhauled.
