As you may remember, Microsoft pulled Windows 10 October 2018 Update quickly after its release because of a number of critical bugs. The company is currently releasing the fixed version via the Windows Update service. It is available to everyone starting March 20, 2019.
At the moment of this writing, the Windows Update History page comes with the following announcement.
We are now starting our phased rollout to users via Windows Update, initially offering the update to devices we believe will have the best update experience based on our next generation machine learning model.
Fully available for advanced users who manually select “Check for updates” via Windows Update.
However, the Get the Windows 10 October 2018 Update support page was updated on March 20, 2019. Now it doesn't include any text that indicates redistribution restrictions. This means that the OS is now generally available to the public.
So, to get the updated version of the OS, check for updates in your existing setup.
It is worth mentioning that October 2018 Update is still blocked for a number of users. If your computer hardware includes a specific Intel GPU driver version, it won't appear on Windows Update. Here are the details.
Microsoft has identified issues with certain new Intel display drivers. Intel inadvertently released versions of its display driver (versions 24.20.100.6344, 24.20.100.6345) to OEMs that accidentally turned on unsupported features in Windows.
After updating to Windows 10, version 1809, audio playback from a monitor or television connected to a PC via HDMI, USB-C, or a DisplayPort may not function correctly on devices with these drivers.
Next Steps: Intel has released updated drivers to OEM device manufacturers. OEMs need to make the updated driver available via Windows Update.
For more information, see Intel Customer Support article.
Note: This Intel display driver issue is different from the Intel Smart Sound Technology driver (version 09.21.00.3755) audio issue previously documented.
