Windows 10 build 14278.0.RS1 and Windows Nano Server leaked to the web

Two interesting non-official releases of Windows have leaked to the Internet. The first one is a Windows 10 RedStone branch build 14278. The other one is a Windows Nano Server installation image.

Windows Nano Server is the other interesting leak. Nano Server is a deeply refactored version of Windows Server with a small footprint and remotely managed installation, optimized for the cloud and a DevOps workflow. It is designed for fewer patch and update events, faster restarts, better resource utilization and tighter security. Nano Server will allow customers to install just the components they require and nothing more. Nano Server has:

  • 93 percent lower VHD size
  • 92 percent fewer critical bulletins
  • 80 percent fewer reboots

If you want to play with Windows Nano Server, refer to the following Tweet:

Please keep in mind that Windows Nano Server is designed to run in virtualization containers, so you will have issues with installing it on your real hardware.

As usual, we do not recommend you to use any unofficial builds as your primary operating system. We suggest you to try it in a virtual machine, if you decide to play with it.

  1. Actually, Nano Server can be deployed on physical hardware, as a virtual machine or as a container.
