It took a very long time, but it finally happened. Winaero Tweaker 1.60 is available for download with several new features and improvements. Here's an overview of new features you will find in this release.
[Update Feb 07, 2023] If you see an error message when click on the "classic user accounts" in the Control Panel, please do the following.
Advertisеment
- run Winaero Tweaker and remove the check mark from the Classic User Accounts option.
- download the Winaero Tweaker installer (I have updated it) and install it over the existing app.
- Re-enable the Classic User Accounts option.
What's new in Winaero Tweaker 1.60.1
- Version 1.60.1 fixed a crash in Terminal profiles context menu introduced in version 1.60.
- Proper Windows 11 23H2 detection.
- The Startup sound checkbox now reflects the actual status (enabled or disabled) in recent Windows versions.
- The Hide Pages in Settings option now allows hiding the Home page on Windows 11.
- You can now disable Copilot on both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- New and improved context menu features:
- Remove the "Edit in Notepad" context menu entry on Windows 11.
- Add Copilot to the desktop context menu.
- On Windows 11, you can now restore the "Edit" entry for images, and set it to any app of your choice!
- Terminal Profiles context menu has been reworked. It now shows profiles available in the JSON config file, and allows adding any of them to the right-click menu of folders. There are also little improvements here and there in this option.
- I have updated the Navigation Pane - default items option. It can now properly differentiate the Home and Quick Access folders, and also allows removing the Gallery item. Finally, the classic Favorites folder is no longer part of "Default items". But if you want, you can add it via the "Custom items" option for the Navigation pane.
- The Show BSOD details setting has got a dedicated option to disable the "Smiley" thing.
- It is now possible to add Classic User Accounts to the Control Panel (control.exe).
- Under Tools on the left, you will find a new option to reset preview thumbnail cache. It is useful if you see corrupted or missing folder or file previews in File Explorer. This works in all Windows versions supported by the app (Windows 7+).
- You can now set any desired folder to be File Explorer's start folder instead of Home or Quick Access.
- Finally, in Winaero Tweaker, the Recent changes page can now be opened with a shortcut, from the menu, and via a new toolbar button.

Thanks for the new version Sergey, regards.
You are welcome.
Hi. Is there an email address to which i can submit possible bugs in Winaero Tweaker 1.60.1? Sorry but don’t use social media and couldn’t locate an email address on the website.
Well you can post them here in the comments
Ah ok thanks.
So I have windows 11 Pro all up to date but WinAero still detects it as 22H2 and not 23H2.
I only changed one thing which was to disable Copilot. The Disable Copilot option doesn’t seem to stick but copilot seems to be disabled.
However immediately after doing this my wallpaper changed from being a static wallpaper to the windows spotlight wallpaper. Cannot work out what might have triggered this change.
I have also spotted some of the other issues mentioned here so won’t repeat them.
Thanks
Have you installed it by upgrading from 22H2?
I guess Yes, and I have an idea where to digg.
Hi
Not really sure. I was on Win 10 (all up to date) until Sept 23 when i installed the Windows 11 upgrade.
Not sure what version it’ll have installed and then upgraded to but if you need some information from me (registry keys etc) please let me know.
regards
Having the same issue.
Winver says 23H2 Build 22631.3007. WinAero claims i have 22H2.
Thank you.
In September 2023 I upgraded from Win 10 Pro x64 to Win 11 Pro x64.
Windows 10 was as up to date as it could be so I believe it was on Win 10 23H2 and then once Win 11 was installed I fully updated that.
Hope this helps.
Yep this obviously helps. I will try to fix the code.
Thank you so much Sergey!
Defender is identifying the latest version as malware and blocking it. FYI.
Thank you very much. Sadly, this is not the first time.
Got a few bugs, I will simply make a comment for each.
Some of these have been around for a while, but as I use this when making a golden image for family/friends, I have not needed one in some time, saw this release and decided to make a fresh 2024 version in-case its needed!
Tested under both Audit mode as well as a Proper User (Windows Version doesn’t matter):
Ads & Unwanted Apps Section:
Personalized Ads
Tailored Experiences
The above two options do not stay checked, if you navigate away and back they are unchecked again.
Correction on previous comment: Windows EDITION doesn’t matter.
Version is Windows 11 23H2
Disable Lock Screen
Option does not stay checked, if you navigate away and back its unchecked again.
Unblock downloaded files Option does not stay checked, if you navigate away and back its unchecked again.
Thank you sir. Investigating.
Export tweaks won’t work properly for me. In log file say for every tweak…
Something went wrong during export
Error: Value cannot be null.
Thank you. Investigating.
MS broke the search history in upper search bar we use in “This Computer” or when we inside any folder,
Is there any way for wintweaker to fix it?
Winaero Tweaker 1.60.1 is not letting me export the applied tweaks to a file. It gives the following error:
Something went wrong during export
Component: …
Operation: Export
Error: Value can’t be null.
Nome do parâmetro: type
Hello, could you please share the list of changes you made? E.g. by taking a screenshot of the export window.
I also get this when trying to export, it did it for all changes (59) I made.
An example is disable background apps.
Same here. Can’t import or export applied tweaks. Same “Value can’t be null” message.
Copilot Options do not stay checked, if you navigate away and back they are unchecked again.
Thanks, I will check this.
Hi
Since 1.55 the “inactive color bars” setting is missing on Win10 (at least on older versions).
1.52 and earlier are OK.
Thank you, I will check.
Could we have an option(s) for a larger font size? I am using a high-res screen on a Notebook and the Winaero Tweaker font size appears small.
Great program – and donation made.
Just learned about this little tool and I love so far…save for one small thing- the same issue as Chris’s post from February 2024. I thought I had it set up but after I noodled with all the WinAero settings I later managed to lock myself out of my laptop…so had to do a reset- and am redoing everything lol. Everywhere else the font size is bigger- menus etc- haven’t seen a message pop up box yet; only the font in the WinAero Tweaker window is tiny (so tiny I’m practically touching the screen with my nose…).
Had also tweaked the windows settings for display resolution to a lower res and using Accessibility to increase font size
