Winaero Tweaker 0.6 is out with a lot of changes

Today, I have released Winaero Tweaker 0.6. The application got several new features and improvements. Let's see these changes in detail.

First of all, you will be happy to know that Winaero Tweaker got an installer (and uninstaller). People were asking for it for a long time. So now, Winaero Tweaker can be installed and removed easily:

Update: here is the portable setup mode:

Re-download the app if you need it.

Update 2: Winaero Tweaker is out.

This is a maintenance release:

  • fixed a bug with Alt+Tab appearance (thumbnails were not scaled properly);
  • updated feature descriptions;
  • updated the installer for Windows 7 which was trying to extract files created for Windows 8.

I fixed a minor bug with "I'll do it myself later" button. Sometimes it continued to ask for the required action.

Another change is to the request to "Restart Explorer". I removed the additional "Apply" button from some pages and implemented this button instead to save your time and make the user interface more consistent.

Taskbar Thumbnails

This feature allows customizing the appearance of taskbar thumbnails in Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7. You can change the thumbnail size, change the number of thumbnails appearing in a group of windows, and the spacing between thumbnails and thumbnail margins.

Last Logon Info

If you enable this option, then every time you sign in, you will see an information screen with the date and time of the last successful logon. The same information will be displayed even if the previous logon was unsuccessful. Now this feature can be turned on with Winaero Tweaker.

Taskbar Button Flash Count

When some application in Windows 10, which is not running from the tray, requires action from you, or wishes to notify you, its taskbar button flashes to seek your attention. By default, the taskbar button for such an app flashes 7 times. This option will allow you to change this value to reduce the number of times it flashes or make it flash until you click on it.

Alt+Tab options

This new option will allow you to tweak the Alt+Tab dialog in Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7.
In Windows 10, you can play with Alt+Tab transparency, hide opened windows or dim the Desktop when you open Alt+Tab.

In Windows 8 and Windows 7, you can adjust the thumbnail size of app previews, margins and spacing between thumbnails. For example, this is how my Alt+Tab looks in Windows 8.1:

The default look was as follows:

You can also enable the classic Alt+Tab user interface in all supported Windows versions.

Finally, a new section, "Tools", offer you something special.

Elevated Shortcut
Using this option, you will be to create a shortcut which runs an application you selected elevated, but without the UAC prompt. It is really useful. I have not used the code of my "Elevated Shortcut" app. Instead I created it from scratch. It will work in any Windows version and is stable and fast.

Reset Icon Cache
If icons in your Windows 10 File Explorer look strange or broken, your icon cache might have become corrupt. This issue is very common for all Windows versions. This option will allow you to repair it with just one click in Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7.

That's it. Feel free to report any bugs you find and make your own suggestions. You can download Winaero Tweaker here:

Would it be possible to add a way to disable the “Show desktop” button in the bottom right or do you know of some registry tweak to remove it?

      You need 7+ Taskbar Tweaker.
I can try to add such a feature, but it will rely on WinaeroTweakerHelper process.
If it is ok, then I’ll add.

Please, make portable versions available again! I don’t understand this install-thing. Why? Can’t people just extract the damned content?! All handy tools comes in portable form (like Nirsoft, GIGATweaker, CCleaner and all other)…

No problem, I will add this option to the installer tomorrow.
Not a big deal. Will start coding it in 2 hours right now.

Very very nice. Love the Elevated Shortcut (ES). That took some figuring out, good job! First ES I created was for Winaero Tweaker! :)

As Winaero Tweaker has so many fascinating features now, would it be possible for the program to open with the navigation panel collapsed to its main headings – by default or by remembered user-choice?

    1. Sergey Tkachenko Post author

Unfortunately, this is not possible without injecting ActiveX in Explorer.
Maybe in future, but not now.

Great update with several advanced tweaks, thanks! I hope you re-add the .zip download, using the installer/portable method takes at least twice the time and we also have to deal with the usual antivirus warnings etc.

I LOVE this project and followed it since the beginning and it is getting better and better especially with the new Installer. I’m actually interrested into all types of installers for quite a few time and I’m asking myself how did you stored the Password for the Encryption into the Inno Setup – Setup itself? Over a Pascal code in the Code section or via an Plugin or via a modified compiler?

    1. Sergey Tkachenko Post author

Over a pascal code as it shown in examples shipped with Inno.
      I did nothing new.

          FYI, I already fixed it.
Will release new version next week.
Also, I found out the same issue in the “Aero Colors” section.
          Thank you for this report.
