Changes in Windows 11 version 24H2 Build 26100.4770 (KB5062660 Preview)
Gradual roll-out
Recall
- Users in the European Economic Area (EEA) can now export their Recall snapshots to share with third-party apps and websites. When you first open Recall and enable snapshot saving, you’ll be shown your unique Recall export code. You’ll need the Recall export code if you decide to export your snapshots in the future. It’s only shown once during initial setup to ensure that you’re the only one in control of exporting your data. Microsoft doesn’t have access to your export code and can’t help you recover it if you lose it. Once set up, you can start exporting at any time by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Recall & Snapshots > Advanced Options. You will need to authenticate with Windows Hello to start exporting. There are two export options: Export Past Snapshots, which allows exporting all Recall snapshots from the last 7 days, the last 30 days, or all at once; and Export photos from now on, which starts a continuous export of photos until turned off or Recall is reset. If you lose your export code or suspect unauthorized access, you should reset Recall.
- Added the ability to reset Recall to delete all saved data. Now, under Settings > Privacy & Security > Recall & Snapshots, you'll find an Advanced settings page that includes a button to reset Recall and delete snapshots.
Click to Do
- Practice in Reading Coach. This feature helps you improve reading and pronunciation. Simply select the text recognized by Click to Do on your screen, select the Practice in Reading Coach action, and read the text out loud. The feature provides feedback and suggests areas for improvement. To use this feature, install the free Microsoft Reading Coach app from the Microsoft Store.
- Read with Immersive Reader. This feature displays recognized text in a distraction-free interface to enhance focus and comprehension. It supports users with dyslexia and dysgraphia and allows customization of text size, spacing, font, and background color. Additional tools include text-to-speech, syllabification, grammar highlighting, and a graphical dictionary. The Microsoft Reading Coach app is required.
- With the Copilot Draft in Word feature in Click to Do, you can generate text from any on-screen content by pressing Win + and selecting the feature. It requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription and eliminates blank pages and writer’s block.
- Click to Do now enables actions on recognized email addresses, such as sending a Teams message or scheduling a meeting directly from the screen selection.
Settings
- The new AI agent in Settings is available on Copilot+ PCs and helps users find and change system settings using natural language queries. The agent uses a local AI model to interpret requests and, with permission, automate tasks. It is currently tested on Snapdragon-based devices, with AMD and Intel support coming later. The feature requires the system's primary interface language to be English.
- On non-Copilot+ PCs, the search field in Settings is now centered in the window title bar.
- Fixed an issue where the Settings window might freeze after reopening the lid if it was left open during lid closure and the lid action was set to "Do nothing" in Settings > System > Power & battery.
- Fixed an issue where Settings could freeze when saving Wi-Fi network credentials.
Windows Resiliency Initiative
- Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) fixes common boot issues by automatically detecting and applying corrections from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), minimizing downtime. Upon critical failure, the device enters WinRE, connects to the Internet, and sends diagnostics to Microsoft for targeted fixes via Windows Update. IT administrators can manage QMR centrally using Microsoft Intune and the RemoteRemediationCSP.
- Microsoft has redesigned the Windows Critical Error screen to align with Windows 11 aesthetics. It retains error code information and now displays the name of the driver potentially responsible for the crash, using a black background.
Start Menu
- The Configure Start Pins policy now supports one-time application, delivering an admin-defined set of pins on the first sign-in. Users can personalize the layout afterward, and changes will persist. The policy is configurable via Group Policy or the Configuration Service Provider (CSP).
Window Binding
- When users accidentally open the Snap layout panel or Snap menu, helpful tips now appear to guide window snapping and inform them of available keyboard shortcuts.
Windows Search
- Microsoft has redesigned the Windows Search settings under Settings > Privacy & Security, consolidating Search permissions and Windows Search pages into a unified, modern interface with improved item ordering for easier access.
Input
- The virtual keyboard layout for gamepads has been updated with improved navigation and focus handling for child keys, pop-up menus, suggestions, and settings. A new lock screen PIN keyboard supports both shortcut and full controller navigation.
File Explorer
- Fixed an issue where the drop-down list from the "..." menu in the address bar could be cut off, making the bottom portion unselectable.
- Fixed an issue where file operation progress dialogs might not appear when initiated from within applications.
- Fixed a performance degradation in File Explorer navigation and context menu opening as the number of synced SharePoint sites increases, which could also affect file launch speed.
Desktop icons
- A known issue may display a white page icon instead of the correct application icon on desktop shortcuts after an app update.
Notifications
- Fixed an issue where clicking a toast notification did not bring the associated app to the foreground, as observed with Outlook notifications.
Available to all users
Authentication
- Addresses an issue where the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) may stop responding during a computer password change under specific audit settings.
File Explorer
- Fixed an issue where the Home page in File Explorer displayed only one folder instead of recent files and other content.
File system
- Fixed an issue in the Resilient File System (ReFS) where backing up large files could exhaust all system memory.
Graphics
- Fixed an issue where external graphics adapters connected via Thunderbolt were not always recognized.
Input
- Fixed an issue with the Microsoft Changjie IME for Traditional Chinese that caused incorrect word formation, unresponsive spacebar, typing errors, or missing suggestion windows after installing KB5062553.
- Fixed an issue affecting Hindi and Marathi phonetic input methods that prevented proper functionality after the KB5062553 update.
Stability
- Fixed a rare stability issue following the May 2025 security update and later versions, which caused system unresponsiveness and hangs on certain devices.
Windows Firewall
- Fixed an issue causing Event Log to record Event 2042 for Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, labeled "Config Read Failed" with the message "More data is available." Further details are available in the Windows Health Dashboard.
