Vivaldi, a fairly innovative modern web browser, has reached version 2.3. Here are the key changes in this release.
Vivaldi was started with the promise of giving you a highly customizable, full-featured, innovative browser. It looks like its developers kept their promise - there is no other browser on the market which offers the same amount of options and features. While Vivaldi is built on Chrome's engine, power users are the target user base, like the classic Opera 12 browser. Vivaldi was created by former Opera co-founder and developed keeping in mind Opera's usability and power.
Many user interface elements and options of Vivaldi will be familiar to users of the good old Opera 12 browser.
Vivaldi 2.3 comes with tons of new features.
Automatically create a tab stack
Vivaldi allows creating a new tab stack automatically for tabs opened from a parent tab. You can enable this feature by opening Settings > Tabs and turning on the option As Tab Stack With Related Tabs.
Save as MHT
Also, the built-in feature of Chromium Save webpage as MHTML is now enabled in Vivaldi.
Exit confirmation
Finally, Vivaldi now shows a confirmation dialog when you close the browser. This feature is available on Windows and Linux.
Keep Last Selected Search Engine
Vivaldi 2.3 can remember the search engine you used last time. You can enable this feature by opening Settings > Search and turning on the option Keep Last Selected Search Engine.
Frequently visited pages in the URL drop-down list of the address bar
There is a new option in Settings > Address bar. Under Address Field Drop-Down Menu, you can enable Including Frequently Visited Pages.
Here is the default URL drop-drown list.
This is how it looks after you enable the option.
Custom screenshot file name
To set a custom screenshot file name template in Vivaldi 2.3, open its settings, and go to Webpages > Image Capture.
There, you'll find a new text field Capture File Name Template that you can use to set the desired template for your screenshot file name. In addition to letters and digits, you can use a number of variables, including Long Date, Year, Hour, Minute, Second, Unique ID, Host Name of the active tab, and more.
Spinner during page load
Starting in version 2.3, it is possible to enable an alternative progress indication on page load. There is a new spinner animation that can be enabled for tabs. Also, interested users can have both the progress bar and the spinner.
If you want to show the spinner, go to “Preferences → Tabs → Tab Display → Favicon Spinner”.
You can download Vivaldi 2.3 from its home page.
